2003 EVANSVILLE RECAP pg 2
Ok, so you've seen the Library part of the trip, but there was definitely more. I mean we do go to other places, get silly, have a looky around at things.. we're wacky that way. I'll just toss some pictures up in here and tell you some stories around them. Maybe I'll tell you stuff that has NOTHING to do with the pictures. Won't that be fun???

I got to stay a few nights with my dear friend, MJ. MJ also happens to be Yak's Grandmother. THIS was my view upon awakening in the (ahem coff coff) morning. OH YEAH! I wanted to stay in that bed in that room forEVER
Interesting story about this farmhouse. It seems that some rather solid Amish were hired to tear the house down. Apparently they started the job, but never finished it. They were spooked by something, and refused to return. Now the thing sits as you see it (too bad - it's awfully sweet), and there are pigs still living in a pen by the barn. People come over to feed and water them. Odd.
OK! I admit it. I'm immature. The fact is, these signs crack me up. You can have a 69 south or a 69 north and even an east or west. I'm done.
People seem to be so fond of ditches in Indiana, that they name them. Not always the BEST names, I'll grant you. Also, sometimes the ditch appears to be missing.
This handsome guy is Mitul, genial manager of Days Inn East in Evansville. Mitul is the kind of guy I want my daughter to marry. Except he's taken already, and she's only six - my daughter, not his wife. Anyway, Mitul was SO fun that upon arrival back at the hotel at an obscene hour of the am last year, Chris and I ended up standing there talking to him instead of going to bed like we SHOULD have. I'm looking forward to seeing him again.
Sunset as seen from my hotel room window. Isn't it incredibly beautiful?
A funny thing happened on the way to the hug. So I have a habit of NOT wearing shoes. Upon John's arrival at my hotel room door, I swung into full action to hug my friend - last seen the previous year. he brought his (sensibly shod) right foot forward at the same time I brought my (insensibly bare) left foot forward. The twain met, thus ripping my toenail to an agonizing degree of yukkiness. It cost me 33 dollars to get the proper things I needed to repair my stupidity - not the LEAST of which was that set of horse nail clippers. John elected to remove the nail for me. MAN it hurt - but he's brave. It was actually pretty funny. I'm glad the bandages buffered it. This is the kind of thing my friends need to expect when they hang out with me. Are YOU ready????
On the way to the Rappite Villiage, we stopped at a pretty little hedge maze, apparently owned by this cat. What a cutie! I wanted to take her home with me. She was so friendly.
These are the Rappite burial grounds. We were told by the information desk that the raised mounds are Indian burial mounds. The Rappites didn't believe in "extras" so they have no grave markers at all. The area is walled off.
George Rapp (the guy with the beard) is an Ancestor to Snowy, so I tried taking a picture of this painting in the stairwell of the museum in New Harmony. I didn't use a flash, but when I went to lighten the picture after I got home I noticed this orb on the painting. Is it an energy orb? I couldn't tell you. I would like someone else to take a look and tell me what they think. It's STILL a cool painting!
You know when you are pootering around a place and you see something so silly you have to take a picture of it. This is one of mine. It's the Short Stop for the New Harmony Raiders. Left to right we have Chris (Yak), John (Hambell/Lknfrghsts), Randy (The Dark Shadows) and Snowy. That's what I call her. Her real name is Pam, but she'll always be "Snowy" to me. Can't wait to see you again Snowy. It will be hugfest!
One of the New Harmony Houses. The houses are lovely. It's amazing to walk through and see how it might have looked several hundered years ago. Pretty town!
We had dinner at a Buffet place. I had GRITS! I found them kind of tastey! This is Snowy, Me, and John after dinner. I think Flake took this. She's too young to have shaky hands.
